Notes on taxonomy

Treated by Webb et al (1988) as part of the normal variation exhibited by P. lanigera Hook.f. However, despite their comments many field botanists can recognise two disticnt entities and these differ further by their chromosome numbers, 2n = 12 in P. lanigera and 2n = 24 in P. novae-zelandiae respectively.
