Distribution

Endemic. South Island uncommon from North West Nelson to southern Westland, common in Fiordland and Southland. Stewart Island.

Habitat

lowland to alpine (10 - 1500 m) in damp ground under scrub, in tussock grassland, wet rock crevices, bogs and cushion herb field.

Propagation Technique

Easy from rooted pieces and division of whole plants but rather slow growing. An excellent pot plant or turf forming species for shaded, damp, poorly drained soils
