Brachyglottis: Name comes from the Greek words brachus meaning "short" and glottis meaning "the vocal apparatus of the larynx"

Brachyglottis southlandica var. albidula (Allan) Cockayne is included within B. southlandicus because it grades into B. southlandicus throughout its known range
