The conservation status of all known New Zealand vascular plant taxa at the rank of species and below were reassessed in 2012 using the New Zealand Threat Classification System (NZTCS). This report includes a statistical summary and brief notes on changes since 2009 and replaces all previous NZTCS lists for vascular plants. Authors: Peter J. de Lange, Jeremy R. Rolfe, Paul D. Similar Taxa
Recognition in the field: a medium stature Rytidosperma with erect culms, crowded dark spikes and florets with very short awn. The hairs on the lemma are only in two tufts on the margin. Similar to larger plants of Rytidosperma pumilum (which shares its habitat) which has scattered hairs on the lemma between the tufts and the awn is not visible to the naked eye. Also similar to R. buchananii which has a long bent awn on the floret.
