Distribution

This rust is known only in the Chatham Islands, and has been collected only at Kaingaroa, although it may occur on Embergeria growing elsewhere in the Chathams.

Fruiting

There are three collections of this rust held in the New Zealand Fungal Herbarium, collected in November 1992 and April 1993.

Threats

Embergeria grandifolia is a threatened plant, and is listed as a nationally endangered species in de Lange et al. (2004) Puccinia embergeriae, which is an obligate parasite, probably co-exists with its host plant. However, it is also a threatened species, absolutely dependant on its host for survival.

Substrate

This rust is an obligate parasite on leaves of Embergeria grandifolia.
