Features

The fruit bodies are up to 8 x 9 cm, branched, and subspherical in profile. The stalk (stipe) is solid and massive, up to 55 x 50 mm. It is white, or whitish where protected, and appears water-soaked above. There are 2–3 short, major branches and many short, secondary branches that all arise at the same level. The major branches are up to 20 mm thick and off-white, while the secondary branches are bright golden orange below, but somewhat lighter upward. The apices are double-dichotomous to cuspidate, pale yellow-orange often with a hint of pink. The apices and upper branches slowly turn deep red-brown in age. the fruit bodies are weakly fragrant, but taste indistinctive. The spores are (8–)9–11 x 4.3–5 µm, ellipsoid to subcylindrical. The spore contents are deep golden and often contain 1–several guttules. The wall is less than 0.2 µm thick and ornamented with a few low warts, which are often more numerous distally.

Fruiting

This fungus has been collected on two occasions in June 1981 and January 2002.
