Features

The fruit bodies, which are up to 35 x 20 mm, are branched from the base and up to 3 mm thick at the thickest place. The stipe (stalk) is up to 4.2 mm long, and off-white where protected, but pale dull grey upward. The branches are dichotomous, in 1–2 ranks. The apices, which are concolourous with the branches, are awl-shaped. The odour and taste is negligible. The spores are 4–5 x 2.9–3.6 µm, ovate to ellipsoid, and hyaline. They are thin-walled with roughened ornamentation of thickly scattered spines and prickles of variable length. Ramariopsis avellaneo-inversa is distinguished from R. avellanea in that the colour pattern of the fruit body is reversed, and the spores are conspicuously roughened.
