    I would like to know if this is likely to be an Olearia gardneri, it has leaves up to 1cm, star like seed heads and does appear to have many dead leaves on it at present.it is in a gorge area of remnant bush about 300m above sea level in Hawkes Bay.

    Joanne, that looks like Helichrysum lanceolatum. If so, the undersides of the leaf would have been white.
