  1. Is killing cats a useful strategy for protecting NZ ecosystems?

  2. I have read many articles recently about Gareth Morgan's proposal to rid NZ of wild cats and his offer to pay a $5 bounty for every free-ranging, homeless cat destroyed by an authorised facility. Is this a useful strategy for ensuring the protection of indigenous ecosystems? Is there any up-to-date research that I should read about the benefits (or otherwise) of doing this?

  3. Theres been a bunch of of short discussion articles on this subject in SciBlogs which I've found informative. A recent one is http://sciblogs.co.nz/politecol/?p=509&utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+sciblogsnz+%28SciBlogs.co.nz%29

  4. Thanks John. That is really helpful and very interesting.

  5. Also Yolanda van Heezik from Otago Uni has been doing a number of studies on domestic cat impacts on wildlife, they are well worth a read.
