Thanks for that information Mike. Since posting my first question, I've had the large kowhai thinned out and the arborist said the kowhai wood was toxic to burn.. so we chipped it. I am now questioning whether or not to use the chips from the dead kowhai branches on the garden? The chip pile (filled with leaf bits) smells like silage so I spread it out, watered it, and spinkled lime on it. I don't want to poison my new shrubs and garden greens!
