  1. Purple native Myosotis

  2. I found this amazing looking plant while on a work trip near Alba Peak, Siberia Valley, Western Otago. I only found the one specimen, which was growing at the top of a south facing fairly dry rubble slope at 1600m. Unfortunately it was late in the evening when I found it and I was at risk of sliding off a bluff while trying to take photos so they aren't of the best quality. Is it just a bluey version of Myosotis macrantha? The leaves look very similar.

  3. Here's another photo

  4. Nice looking plant Rowan. I think you're right in suggesting Myosotis macrantha. It's quite a variable taxon and has a wide range of flower colour though I've never seen one with quite the colour hue that you've photographed.

  5. Hi John. Cheers, for that confirmation. I'm just writing up a species list for that area at the moment. Once I get them written up I'll send you through a few plant lists I've done for some Otago places we have visited over the season. I just discovered Poa schistacea for the first time the other day up near Little Lochnigar Peak. Its quite an attractive looking grass in full flower.

  6. Yes that's Myosotis macrantha but I too have never seen that colour. You should send your image to Dr Carlos Lehnebach ([email protected]) who is revising Myosotis. He will be interested in this.

  7. Flower colour in Myosotis macrantha varies between brown to bright yellow. I haven't seen this particular shade before
