  1. Plant id: attractive shrub

  2. We have this large and a couple of tiny specimens of thus attractive plant in our garden. I'd like to move them but would like to know how big it'll get before I do so. Here are some details:

Larger one about 2m tall, age unknown
Seems to be thriving in volcanic soil in the sun
    Evergreen
New stems appear reddish, as do leaf spines from the back (light green from the front)
Comes out of the ground in a cluster of about a dozen trunks, which are long and stringy
Leaves 8-10cm, pointy at the end, 3-4 cm wide

Any help would be appreciated and happy to provide more info if you can tell me what to look for!

  3. Possibly one of the privet species which are easy to move, but can become weedy. hard to tell from the photograph

  4. Thanks, Mike. If so, unlikely to grow more than, say 2-3m?

  5. This is Ligustrum lucidum which is a very weedy species. The Auckland Council website has helpful information about it:

You might consider a similarly attractive native species to fill the spot? Have a look at this handy booklet:
