    Can this be bought at garden centres? I would like some for a pond in Dunedin.

    I have not seen it for sale. I would be very careful about planting it anywhere that connects (in flood or otherwise) with a natural waterway as it could become a serious pest. See http://ecan.govt.nz/news-and-notices/news/pages/temuka-pond-plant-poses-potential-problem.aspx
