  1. Celmisia spedenii

  2. Back in 2010 I came across a number of Celmisia spedenii plants in flower with yellow blooms .Unfortunately I'm unsure how long this colouring lasted as I didn't return until 10 days later ,where I found the flowers had reverted to their 'normal' white colour.
In my travels , I've observed other Celmisia sps, namely C.philocremna and C.viscosa to be pink in bud some years, however I've never come across plants in full anthesis showing pink.

Anyone any idea of what causes the above and how long it would have been until the yellow faded ?.

2 photos .First is a view from above .

    Thanks Dave.

  3. No idea on flower colour persistence. Pink colours in Celmisia have been recorded in C. mackaui, C. graminifolia, C. thomsonii, and C. philocremna. Sometimes this is persistent but it usually fades not long after opening. I have never seen cream or yellow colours before.

  4. Hello Peter I also came across this Celmisia lyallii on the Hectors in early 2011.Here some of the flower heads at an early stage were yellow while the more mature ones were at various stages fading to white as shown in this first pic.

  5. 2nd Pic --Celmisia lyallii yellow close up.

  6. I recently came across a pink Celmisia monoi (photo attached) in the Seaward Kaikoura range. The whole hillside was covered in flowering C. monroi (and Aciphylla glaucescens, Chionochloa flavescens), but this was the only fully pink one that I came across.

I have also seen pink colouration on C. spectabilis and C. viscosa but only when they were in bud stage. This is the first open flowerhead that I have found retaining the pink colouration.
