  1. Fuscospora fusca x solandri? Or something else?

  2. Wondering if this is a hybrid between F fusca and F solandri, or whether it is a specimin planting of an exotic Nothofagaceae, or another plant altogether?
Found growing as a large spreading tree (=size of an adult red beech, ~18m tall) in a rest area on the eastern side of Lake Taupo near Motutere Bay.
Leaves are ~2cm long, with smooth/undulate edges and sharply, minutely toothed ends.
Apologies for the photo, was taken on the iphone, all I had for scale was a sunhat...

  3. I think it's a hybrid alright. Parentage involving F. fusca or F. truncata (who knows if your tree is planted? ) and either F. cliffortioides or F. solandri is likely. I have seen examples of this before in places where the ranges of these taxa overlap
