Unfamiliar tree, probably exotic, slight similarity in form to elm but fruit somewhat "acorn" like. Tree is about to be felled... wonder what it is. More images available if required.
I've seen stones like those in the Chch Botanic Gardens so maybe the curator there can help but more locally why not see if Appleton's Nursery at Wakefield have any ideas. If those fruits are nearly ripe Robert may be interested in collecting some.
