  1. Please help identifying this tree

  2. Hi folks, I took a picture of this tree back in November last year (summer) and it has the most amazing flower buds and flowers. Can anyone identify it for me? It was a full size tree (about 20ft tall), and is in the Larnach Castle Gardens.

    Thank you!

  3. It's Cantua buxifolia-the national flower of Peru. I grew it from cuttings and it did well in a dry Hawkes Bay Garden for about 15yr. Mine was red flowered.

  4. Fantastic thank you!

  5. Hi Matt,
While researching a plant found your topic. The plant is likely to be Cantua bicolor, not Cantua buxifolia due to flower colour. Unfortunately I do not know the plant at Larnach Castle but will look it out. Many plants in flower at Dunedin Botanic Garden at present in the South American Collection. See article this week in Weekend Gardener. Thanks
    Dylan
