    Hi - its jacaranda (Jacaranda mimosaefolia) - Bignoniaceae - see http://www.nzpcn.org.nz/flora_details.aspx?ID=4187. A beautiful tree indeed - but one that is now starting to naturalise more frequently in northern New Zealand.
