  1. Blechnum on Routeburn Track

  2. Whilst walking the Routeburn, these beautiful banks of Blechnum were putting out new leaves. I assumed that they may have been a particularly red form of B. procerum at the time, but wasn't competely sure. In this location and based on their appearance, is it likely to be B. procerum or B. montanum ?

  3. Hi Philip, it looks like B. montanum to me. B procerum usually occurs as scattered clumps and has smaller fronds with a blunter tip to the leaflets. B. montanum can form extensive patches in damper areas of the SI mountains

  4. Thanks Mike, I've been thinking that's the case. It was viewing various images of leaves of B. montanum (which have more of the appearance of B. novae-zelandiae) that had thrown me.
