I have no interest in using this plant at all. I am curious to know informed opinion about the use of this plant in large scale plantings, as it is being actively promoted. I am a little suspicious of supposed exotic ecological panaceas. Is it a potential species of concern ? (as it does not appear to be represented on the website).
Hi Philip - NZPCN does not put up taxa which have yet to be shown to be naturalised here. This is probably why vetiver grass is not on the website - least ways we have yet to hear of a genuinely wild occurrence. I know of the grass, and I have heard much about it that is mostly negative - however I am no expert about it, nor am I prepared to make any statements about it. As I know you are a member of the Auckland Botanical Society why not collar at their next meeting Rhys Gardner (who does know the grass well) and ask his opinion?
Hi Peter, thanks for the reply . That describes it well. As I say, I have no interest in using it nor antipathy towards it. It was more a question that I had a passing interest in, due to the kind of applications it is being recommended for.
