  1. Recording of Clematis paniculata flowering

  2. Hi
Do we record first flowering or wait till there are a good % in flower. Mine has 5 flowers as of today.

  3. Hi John, thank you for asking, you can record both eventually of course. For now if you could record first flowering would be fantastic. Then once the specimen has really come into full flowering you can record that and the degree also. Cheers Matt

  4. Hi Matt - awesome work on this. I spotted Clepan yesterday morning after 4 days away - I recorded it for Birdwood Reserve, but didn't see the option for 'first flowering' which it was; just a hint of the flowers, and found 3 others beginning today that were not visible yesterday. Do you have the ability to change the record I submitted?

I've added a seperate obs for Zealandia today; have only been in the northern part where it is just starting, but from Birdsong Gully I can make out flowering as far South as the Western Firebreak ( ~2km away!), so I suspect it may already have had a head of steam up.
    Cheers, Bernard

  5. Hi Bernard, I hope things atre going well for you. Thanks for the obs, the first flowering option is about the fourth one on the list (may need to get sorted). Thanks for the recordings its really good to get as many records as possible. Especially for a species which is all over the country. I haven't yet spotted any Kapiti specimens flowering which is interesting. Keep up the great work!! Cheers, Matt.

  6. I spotted at least 3 sites flowing in the bush reserve behind Elsdon, Porirua today. I'll log the observations...

  7. Hi there Bernard, I've edited your CLEpan observation for Birdwood Reserve on 24 August so it now says 'first flowering'. Is that correct?

  8. that's great - I gleaned some further info over the next couple of days, but should add that separately.

Looking further up the valley, it appeared in full bloom - through binocs at 2km+ though. I've noticed this before with other species, though not specifically Clepan. It took 2 weeks or so for the Birdwood Reserve & North end of Zealandia to become so prominent, and further couple of weeks on new plants are still joining in. I had a trip down to the South end yesterday & found lots of petals beginning to fall. Anyhow - I'll make entrys for Zealandia proper for those obs.

    Cheers,
    Bernard

  9. how embarrassing - looks like I'd already submitted a report for Zealandia. There's now two Zealandia reports for the 19th August - could you please delete one? They're identical.

    Thanks,
    B
