Can you please chance common name to Franchett's Cotoneaster? I know there are often several common names for plants, but this name is in common use (at least outside NZ) and would help to distinguish this Cotoneaster from others.
See my comments under 'bearberry' . Frankly this logic reminds me of a now thankfully out of print book that urged that we call raupo 'cumbungi' - the Australian Aboriginal name....The same book opined that Pennantia baylsiana shoudl be known as 'Mountain Aniseed'.............
