Found in creek at Tangimoana on Manawatu coast. Is it Ruppia / if so is it polycarpa or megacarpa?
Your image is not very clear (understandable) - but I think you have Stuckenia pectinata - did the leaves have little ligules (like a little tongue where the leaf clasps the stem) and if you uproot a bit it should have little tubers. Ruppia has spiralled 'stems" leading up to the ball-like inflorescences. Hope that helps
thanks peter, yes the leaves do have little ligules, haven't uprooted any yet to see if there are tubers.
Hooray - it is Stuckenia then - see http://www.nzpcn.org.nz/flora_details.aspx?ID=195 - we don't have great images of it, so please feel free to send the NZPCN any you have.
