  1. Olearia species.

  2. This was found in the Northern Tararuas at about 900m.Initially I thought O.lacunosa but with small teeth on the leaf edge it won,t be.Am thinking now O.lacunosa x O.ilicifolia, any ideas anyone?

  3. I would also suggested O. ilicifolia x O. lacunosa - I have seen this hybrid once before, also in the Tararua ranges

  4. I saw what I think is is an Olearia moschata x O. ilicifolia hybrid in the Humbolt Mountains yesterday. Both putative parents were growing together.

  5. Thanks for the replies, these natural hybrids I find interesting.

  6. Jesse - hope you got a specimen it would interest Peter Heenan - and yes I think you are also correct

  7. No I didn't collect as I don't currently hold a permit and was not there on DOC business. But I will make a point of getting some next time I go back (hopefully not too far in the distant future - although I might need a little rest first, the access is a 3.5km walk ascending about 1,100m!). I saw these about 5 weeks ago when I went through last but didn't really think too carefully about it. I'll definitely make an effort to be prepared to collect some next time I can.

  8. Good - I had assumed you were there doing DOC work. Suggest you send your images to Peter Heenan at Landcare Research ([email protected]) and ask him if he is interested in having specimens.

  9. I'm pleased to say I spent 10 days on my own reconnaissance, tramping with my man and celebrating 15 great years together. He is very tolerant of my botanising while tramping!

  10. Here is another hybrid I encountered a few years ago in the Eyre Mountains (Southland). Peter Heenan thought it a possible hybrid between O. cymbifolia and O. avicenniifolia - although I only saw O. cymbifolia in the vicinity.

  11. p.s. I sent several specimens to Peter, he didn't make this call based on photos alone.
