  1. manuka / rawirinui (Kunzea robusta) spectacular flowering

  2. As a theme following on from the last forum post about Kunzea, and with an admittedly vested interest, is anyone else noticing that Kunzea robusta is having an absolute stunner flowering this summer? Flowering was delayed in this species by nearly two months from its usual start but currently everywhere I have been traveling in the northern North Island since Xmas the forested slopes have been a blaze of white (almost like a heavy snow fall). I have not seen the same yet for K. serotina, and K. tenuicaulis was also pretty poor. Is anyone else noticing a heavier than usual Kunzea flowering (I am not worried about the species)?

  3. Hi Peter, I was up in Auckland before Christmas an noticed the kanuka flowering heavily on the north shore

  4. Yes very heavy flowering around the Hutt Valley and Tararuas too.

  5. Manuka flowering is very heavy in the Eyre Mountains (Otago/Southland) this summer, I think it peaked about 2 weeks ago, but still going strong.

  6. Yes I also have noted an exceptional and very long flowering of kahikatoa / manuka (Leptospermum scoparium agg.) in the North Island as well. Indeed most of our Myrtaceae are having a good flowering this summer though up in Auckland pohutukawa was about a month later than usual.
