  1. Idesia polycarpa

  2. a friend has 1 male and two females of above planted together 3 years ago. Over the last 2 years all the trees that were well established have died with the trunk splitting and bleeding and the (one tree after another died) leaves drying up and dying. I'm wondering if it is a soil disease? or are they deep rooted and have hit clay???

  3. Hi Shannon, I guess you mean the bark is splitting rather than the whole trunk splitting open. Bark fissures and weeping sap can be a sign of disease. I wouldn't think it was because the roots hit clay - if this happens usually plants become stunted and the leaves turn yellow but it rarely kills the tree quickly
