The photo was taken on mountain of Nelson.
A young flower spike of Verbascum creticum http://www.nzpcn.org.nz/flora_details.aspx?ID=2602?
Dear Thorsen, much thanks.
Hi Brook, Graeme Ure asked me to have another look at my provisional ID of this photo. He states "V. creticum is not woolly and has 4 stamens the upper 2 with purple filaments. V. thapsus is woolly and has 5 stamens the upper 3 with white(ish) filaments admittedly it is difficult to count the stamens in the supplied photo but they are not purple". On re-examination I agree with Graeme that it is not V. creticum. But the photo may have been taken when the plant is wet (which would alter the plant's colour) and I think Verbascum virgatum is also a possibility. V. thapsus is distinctly whiteish hairy (like a lambs ear) and V. virgatum looks greenish (like a foxglove leaf), do you remember anything along these lines?
Hi, Dear Thorsen, thanks a lot for your comments, as I remember, its leaves is woolly, looks like to be covered with a slight frost, maybe close to the tincture of Verbascum thapsus? It's pity that I lost the photo of leaves.
Hi Brook, sounding most like V. thapsus. We all have these times when we don't take note of an important feature. All part of learning to become a botanist ...
Hi, Mike, thanks a lot, learning always is divertive, specially on botany.
