  1. ID hebe please

  2. growing out on the cliff face, Titahi Bay
note, I'm (attempting) to gather seed. I find hebe are very quick to release their seed, one minute flowering next minute... see photo!

  3. Hebe stricta and then depending on who you believe its either var. macroura (my view) or var. atkinsonii.

  4. I'm inclined to agree with Peter: var. macroura despite Bayly and Kellow including Wellington plants in var. atkinsonii. H. stricta is a real mix of environmental forms and gradations and often it is difficult to assign plants to one var. or another when you examine them closely.

John, I have had success with leaving trays of potting mix under hebe bushes and collecting seed that way

  5. I agree with var. macroura as its sprawling along the edge of the cliffs and makes no effort to grow much higher then 300mm. Thanks for the tip on seed collecting but the bay 'breeze' would be most 'uplifting' to any trays if not the dozens of walkers on the track. I've brought home a bag of pods of all ages, will see how I go. The plan is to cut out the carpet gorse on the track and replace it with hebe. Should be faster to form a carpet then mingimingi.
