  1. Brachyglottis compacta at Castlepoint

  2. I wonder if anyone can enlighten me regarding whether plants of Brachyglottis compacta on slopes by the lighthouse are original to that site, or whether it is just indigenous to Castle Rock and adjacent areas. It's a bit hard to tell from the website. I was there yesterday and saw large plants below the lighthouse amongst coastal flax, but was unsure whether they are mature plants from older community plantings. Also, would the Pimelea on consolidated stone there be P. carnosa ?

  3. Hi Philip, I'm pretty sure there is a natural population at the lighthouse, but there is a possibility that there have also been some plantings.

The Pimelea at that site that I have recorded are P. carnosa + P. urvilleana subsp. urvilleana + P. villosa subsp. arenaria pro parte (P. daysantha Col.) + a hybrid involving P. villosa and another entity (one of the P. prostrata?), but I have only spent about an hour there so there could be others.

  4. Thanks Mike, the majority that were up higher looked like P. carnosa to me, but I did see a bit of variation, like what you've just described. And it was good to see the P. villosa so close at hand in the lower parts with mobile sand.
