  1. Is this 5 finger seed?

    Hi team
    Im confused, I have been keeping a watch on the 5 finger in Taupo Swamp, Plimmerton wanting to collect some seed. I went out on Saturday and some of the seed heads where flowing (little yellow flowers) while others where not. Is the attached flower head in seed? If so, why are the other trees seed heads flowering?

    Hi John
    Although the detail is not ideal, it appears to me that what you have pictured is a five finger inflorescence. According to this website, this species flowers from June to August, with fruit appearing from August onwards. Have a close look at the fruit and inflorescence pics filed here for this species and I think you'll observe obvious differences. Regards, Bill

    John - Bill is correct - you have photographed an immature inflorescence.
