  1. Cardamine spp?

  2. Is this a Cardamine, and if yes, what species? Photographed on Mt Luxmore in late December 2014.

Closest match I could find is this image, allegedly of Cardamine corymbosa
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cardamine_corymbosa#/media/File:Cardamine_corymbosa_Hersfeld.jpg

I'm used to Cardamine corymbosa having thin, delicate leaves with 3 leaflets (or lobes?). This plant on Mt Luxmore has 7 leaflets per leaf; the leaves are rather fleshy and dark colour.

  4. Hi there Danilo,
There is an entity on Luxmore (on the large scree above LuxmoreBasin as you head around the north face towards the saddle) which Brian Rance calls Cardamine sp. 'scree'. I suggest you contact Peter Heenan at Landcare Research - he's working on Cardamine right now I believe. This is a messy group of plants which has been due for revision for some time I think.l

  5. Thanks heaps Jesse! Yes, the scree slope above Luxmore Basin is exactly where this picture was taken. What you are writing makes a lot of sense!

  6. Seen that plant many times as I go up there with the Southern Institute of Technoloy students on a field trip each year. It's a cute little mystery alright!
