  2. I would love to know what the rosette plant in the photo is. This is on the Pukerua Bay escarpment in high light areas. The plant is very lush and large. Mature leaves are around 300mm long. It looks like it wants to invade all the disturbed areas.

  3. it looks like Sonchus to me - possibly even kirkii

  4. No it isn't Sonchus kirkii. I know that well. There are hundreds at Rocky Bay, much more than I have ever seen before. This looks like a giant dock but very lush.

  5. Possibly wild turnip - Brassica napus?

  6. My obs from Pukerua Bay might be incorrect then? Like this one http://naturewatch.org.nz/observations?taxon_id=406087-Sonchus-kirkii

  7. Sorry Tim. I didn't look at all your photos but one is a Brassica poss. B. napus. S. kirkii leaves are glaucous and narrower with a serrate margin. They are also usually held flat to the ground in an obvious rosette

  8. I have recent photos which I'll get put on website that will help people see the features I mentioned

  9. Hi All, I have always wonered about this specimen as I have found it many times. I thought it was a fleshy Dandelion...any thoughts? Need the flower eh!!

  10. its definatley not a Brassica - the flowers i have seen there were a thistle of some sort
