thats a HARD one to ID Matt!
If it has a daisy head then not a brassica. All but the tbay photo are not S. kirkii and even that one doubtful. Any details on leaf hairs? If an Asteraceae leaf looks most like Cichorium to me
as Matt alluded to they are more likely to be dandelion or S. oleraceus- i haven't noticed Cichorium in the area
My comments only apply to Tim's naturewatch photos. Robyn's photo could be a brassica or could be the same as Tim's plant
Thanks Mike - i have edited my obs to be just Sonchus sp. not kirkii for now.
Personally I wouldn't be comfortable iDing them as a Sonchus as they are definitely not S. asper and don't look much like S. oleraceus either
Try Lactuca - either L. serriola or L. virosa
Yes!!! thanks Peter, after another visit to the site with our biosecurity officer, Katrina Merrifield, she came up with this too. Then we saw another monster about to go to seed. Will put it on separately.
So the plant on the left in the photo looks like Lactus serriola and the one on the right looks like Lactus virosa
Duly noted ...another species for the shelves..
