Aotearoa – Te Ika-a-Maui (New Zealand’s North Island) was the destination for our 2019 big botanising trip. We were lucky to be invited to give a keynote address at the Botanic Gardens of Australia and New Zealand (BGANZ) congress on the subject of ‘World-Wide Plant Conservation: Addressing Plant Blindness’. Now the congress was for 4 days in Wellington and there was no way we were taking a flight half way around the world for just 4 days so the trip became a 3 week sojourn into the
ngahere (forest) and maunga (mountains) looking for taonga (treasures).
